Weather Map Atlas
Live surface analyses, 24/48/96-hr progs, wind/wave, and 500 mb — from NOAA OPC and NHC.
Landing pages (start here)
The OPC "all products" tabs link to the current surface analysis, 24/48/72/96hr progs, wind/wave, and 500 mb for each basin. Bookmark these — they survive when OPC renames individual files.

Upper air — 500 mb (steering flow)
The 500 mb pattern drives the motion of surface systems. Check it before trusting a 72/96-hr surface prog.

Reading a surface analysis — quick checklist
- Find the lows and highs. Note central pressure and 24-hr motion vector if shown.
- Trace the fronts. Cold (blue barbs), warm (red semicircles), occluded (purple), stationary (alternating).
- Isobar spacing = wind strength. Tighter = stronger. 4 mb contours are standard; crowding means gale or above.
- Walk the progs. 24→48→72→96 hr: deepening or filling? Closer or farther from your waypoints?
- Cross-check 500 mb. Digging trough upstream → surface low will deepen.
